Frankfort, KY – Governor Fletcher says his tax modernization plan is designed to stimulate the state's economy and create jobs. At a Frankfort news conference, Fletcher said the plan will eliminate or reduce some income taxes, will raise cigarette taxes, and will overhaul the state's business tax structure.
The Fletcher Administration predicts the new plan will create about seven thousand jobs in the next two years. The Governor stresses that the proposal has bi-partisan support.
AP – Separate Federal Death Penalty trials will be held for two Kentucky jail escapees charged with the kidnapping and murder of a woman from Galvants Ferry, South Carolina. U-S District Judge Joe Anderson says he would like to try Branden Basham and Chadrick Fulks at the same time before different juries. However, Judge Anderson says he doesn't have enough room in his courtroom.
Frankfort, KY – House Speaker Pro Tem Larry Clark says he doesn't think his legislation to expand gambling in Kentucky will pass. Clark met with members of the horse racing industry at his office, but he says they were unable to agree on final details on a plan for expanded gambling.
Clark has proposed legislation that would ask voters whether they want a constitutional amendment to allow for casino gambling. Clark's plan calls for nine casinos across the state.

Sergeant Hasan Akbar is facing two counts of premeditated murder and three counts of attempted murder in the March 23rd attack at Camp Pennsylvania in Kuwait.

Lexington, KY – The brother of Kentucky's newest U-S Congressman is recovering from a gunshot wound. 37 year old Matthew Chandler was shot in the abdomen Tuesday as he sat in his car near a Lexington apartment complex. Chandler is the younger brother of Congressman Ben Chandler of Kentucky's Sixth District.
Frankfort, KY – Governor Fletcher has signed an agreement between the state and NASA that calls for Kentucky to have a larger role in developing research that could help in getting to Mars and the Moon. As part of the pact, Kentucky will have an office at the National Aeronautics and Space Adminstration's Ames Research Center in California. The Kentucky Science and Technology corporation will pay its own expenses and operate the office.
Bowling Green, KY – The Media Empire owned by Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is being sued by Western Kentucky University and the company that handles the licensing rights for the mascot known as "Big Red." University officials say the Italian firm copied Big Red in developing an Italian media character named Gabbibo.
