Elizabethtown, KY – An Elizabethtown man has been sentenced to life in prison after his conviction in the beating death of a 78 year old minister last December. It will be at least 20 years before 26 year old Joshua Simmons will be eligible for parole. he was convicted Tuesday of murdering the Reverend James Hornback after breaking into Hornback's home. Prosecutors said Simmons wanted to steal prescription drugs. Hornback's throat was slashed and he was struck on the head 23 times with a hammer.
Paducah, KY – A regional gasoline distributor in paducah says motorists should expect gas prices to jump above $3.00 a gallon by the weekend because of Gulf Coast refinery disruptions. Phil Russo says the damage caused by Hurricane Rita puts more pressure on the market, but he adds that a rush to the pump isn't necessary. Russo predicts an average increase in price of ten cents a gallon per day. He says the wholesale price of regular has risen to $2.90 a gallon. Russo's firm operates several BP stations in the Paducah area.
