Bowling Green, KY – Judge Tom Lewis indicated today that the first of the two men charged in the Katie Autry murder case will go to trial next summer. Judge Lewis scheduled a pre-trial hearing for February 18th.
Defense attorney Zack Kafoglis, who had represented defendant Stephen Soules, officially withdrew from the case. Kafoglis says that step was necessary for his client to receive the help of the Public Advocacy Office.
Lexington, KY – The former mistress of Kentucky Governor Paul Patton will be sentenced January eighth, after entering a guilty plea to a federal mail fraud charge. In exchange for the plea, federal prosecutors will recommend probation instead of prison time.
Henderson, KY – Former Kentucky Lawmaker John Stanley Hoffman, Junior died today from a massive stroke. The 66 year old former judge collapsed while walking with his wife in their Henderson neighborhood. He was taken to Saint Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, where he died early this morning.
Hoffman was elected to the State House of Representatives in 1965, and was elected Chairman of the Appropriations and Revenue Committee three years later. He was elected Henderson County judge in 1969.
Bowling Green, KY – A representative of the Governor's Office for Policy and Management says there is more "bad news" about the state budget outlook. Bill Hintze told the Joint Committee on State Government that Kentucky's budget shortfall is expected to worsen in 2005 and 2006.
Louisville, KY – The ex-mistress of Kentucky Governor Paul Patton is scheduled to go on trial next week on a federal charge of mail fraud. However, the Associated Press is reporting that she will change her innocent plea at a hearing Thursday.
Tina Conner previously pleaded innocent to the single count that alleged she falsified an application for a company she owned. She allegedly falsified the document to be certified as a "disadvantaged" business.
