Bowling Green, KY – The National Conference of State Legislatures has selected Representative Roger Thomas to serve as Chairman of its Agriculture and Rural Development Committee. The Democrat from Smiths Grove says he will work to assure that farming can "continue to thrive."
Somerset, KY – A 55 million dollar expansion has been announced by officials with the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. The 116 thousand square foot addition will connect with the east side of the current hospital facility.
The expansion will feature a cardiovascular unit and a critical care unit for neurosurgical patients. The addition will also contain an intermediate care unit.
Officials with the Hospital say the groundbreaking for the expansion is scheduled for October third.
Bowling Green, KY – A major gift to Western Kentucky University will be used to establish a Visiting Professorship in business leadership and ethics. The "Wendell Cherry Visiting Professorship" will be created through a gift of 250 thousand dollars from the Humana Foundation. The gift will be matched by 250 thousand dollars from the Commonwealth's Regional University Excellence Trust Fund.
Louisville, KY – State Senator David Karem, a Democrat from Louisville, says he will not seek re-election when his term ends next year. Speaking with reporters today, Karem said he had hoped to leave the Senate "under his own terms", and believes he will be able to accomplish that goal.
Karem says his decision was not influenced by the fact that Republicans now have control of the State Senate. The Lawmaker from Louisville was first elected to the State Senate in 1976.
