Kentucky Native Bob Edwards to Appear at Southern Kentucky Book Fest

Bob Edwards has a voice familiar to many public radio fans. The Louisville native was for many years NPR's Morning Edition anchor. Edwards is also an author, and he'll appear Saturday, April 20, in Bowling Green to sign copies of his new book A Voice In The Box: My Life in Radio at the 2013 Southern Kentucky Book Festival.

Bowling Green Man Finished Boston Marathon 25 Minutes Before Explosion

Grant Cline of Bowling Green says Monday's race was his first, and will be his last, Boston Marathon.

Cline had completed the race less than half an hour before two explosions rocked the finish line area as he was looking for his wife at the family waiting area. Cline, a Fed Ex driver, spoke to WKU Public Radio hours after the explosions.

"Twenty-five minutes after I finished, all of this starts to go down. You've got families that have been affected forever, two or three that have lost their lives. It's been an incredible day," Cline said.

Cline said after he found his wife Wendy unharmed their thoughts turned to those who had been killed and injured. He called the blasts an "evil thing."

Rand Paul Doubles Down on Gun Control Fight

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul is lending his name to a conservative gun rights group that's targeting fellow Republicans.

The group, the National Association for Gun Rights, is running ads against two Congressmen in Virginia, including House Minority leader Eric Cantor, saying they gave in too easily to President Obama's gun control measures. They also say the National Rifle Association is too willing to compromise on gun rights.

Richard Brown was re-appointed to the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights earlier this year. He was also inducted into the Kentucky Civil Rights Hall of Fame for his life-long work fighting for racial equality.

Alwan to Serve Sentence in Indiana

An Iraqi man sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to terrorism charges in Bowling Green has been assigned to a high-security facility in Indiana.

The federal Bureau of Prisons lists 32 year old Waad Ramadan Alwan as an inmate at United States Penitentiary-Terre Haute. The high security facility is about 70 miles west of Indianapolis. A co-defendant, 25 year old Mohanad Shareef Hammadi, is serving life in prison at the United States Penitentiary-Big Sandy in Inez, KY.
