I-69 http://wkyufm.org en Contract Awarded to Complete Next Phase of I-69 Project in Hopkins County http://wkyufm.org/post/contract-awarded-complete-next-phase-i-69-project-hopkins-county <p></p><p>Governor Beshear has announced a new contract to remake a major interchange along the Interstate-69 corridor in Hopkins County.</p><p>The latest phase of the project involves creating a cloverleaf interchange connecting I-69 with the Breathitt-Pennyrile parkway, south of Madisonville.</p><p>The $29 million contract was awarded to the Nashville-based Rogers Group, Inc., and Louisville-based Qk4 Inc., with a completion date set for May of 2015. Kentucky’s stretch of I-69 will eventually run north to south from Henderson to Fulton, in far western Kentucky.</p><p>Political and business leaders hope upgrading the existing roadway will boost jobs and economic activity along the I-69 corridor.</p><p>Completing the project will mean major upgrades to parts of the Pennyrile, Western Kentucky, and Purchase Parkways, which were not built to handle traffic merging into 70-mile-per hour roadways. Mon, 13 Jan 2014 19:12:51 +0000 Kevin Willis 42383 at http://wkyufm.org Contract Awarded to Complete Next Phase of I-69 Project in Hopkins County Daviess County Leaders Drum Up Interest in I-67 Plan http://wkyufm.org/post/daviess-county-leaders-drum-interest-i-67-plan <p>Business leaders in Indiana and Kentucky are joining forces to drive interest in a cost-effective interstate proposal that would use existing infrastructure to link the states.</p><p>The Interstate 67 project would tie into Interstate 69 near Washington, Ind., and eventually link up with Interstate 65 in Bowling Green, Ky.</p><p>Washington Mayor Joe Wellman says the ability to tie into I-69 in Washington has spurred interest among Daviess County officials.</p><p><a href="http://bit.ly/13LRvv9" target="_blank">The Washington Times-Herald reports </a>a $200,000 study shows the road would draw at least 16,000 vehicles a day and could ease congestion on I-65 near Louisville.</p><p>Coalition member Hank Menke says there's no money for the project right now. But he hopes the study has sent a strong message to state transportation officials that the idea is worth considering.
