Diddle Arena this weekend. Graduate candidates donned lavishly decorated hats, listened to a speech by President Gary Ransdell, had their names read as they walked across the red carpet, and posed for photos in their caps and gowns.</p><p>This weekend marked WKU's 175th commencement ceremony. Mon, 19 May 2014 15:56:32 +0000 Abbey Oldham 48251 at http://wkyufm.org Photo Gallery: WKU's 175th Commencement Ceremonies WKU To Host Opening Round of Women’s Preseason Basketball Tourney http://wkyufm.org/post/wku-host-opening-round-women-s-preseason-basketball-tourney <p>Fresh off an NCAA postseason appearance, the WKU women’s basketball team is looking forward to another tournament.&nbsp; The school announced Thursday that Diddle Arena will serve as a host site for the opening round of the women’s preseason NIT tournament in November.&nbsp;<br /><br />“Not only being in the tournament, but having the chance to be one of the few schools to host is a sign of the national respect that our program has garnered in the women’s basketball world,” said WKU head coach Michelle Clark-Heard. “I am so excited for our team and our fan base to have the chance to have this event in E.A. Upstairs there’s a display of many of the mementos from his distinguished college and pro basketball careers. He enjoys giving visitors a detailed tour of the home, right down to the insulation<br /><br />The handsome, two-story house is a far cry from his humble beginnings in Warren County.<br /><br />His family's house growing up lacked electricity or a bathroom until he was a teen, but Carrier found a way to sharpen his basketball skills.</p><p>“I saved up enough money to buy my first ball and goal. It was a little lace up ball and a goal for $3.99. I put it on the side of a corn crib and I shot with my little ball through that goal for two or three days,” said Carrier.&nbsp; “My ball went over the fence and a big ol’ hog took a bite of it. Diddle Arena.&nbsp; The WKU Athletics Department has announced that Bowling Green native Darel Carrier will have his uniform No. 35 retired on February 22nd as WKU plays host to the University of Louisiana-Monroe.&nbsp; &nbsp;<br /><br />He’ll be the eight person affiliated with WKU Men’s basketball to have his jersey retired, joining E.A. Diddle Arena when WKU takes on Arkansas State. The appearance is part of WKU's celebration of 50 seasons at the iconic basketball arena.</p><p><a href="http://www.bgdailynews.com/sports/former-coach-felton-visiting-old-program-with-no-regrets/article_994535c8-7213-11e2-8a18-0019bb2963f4.html" target="_blank">The Bowling Green Daily News notes</a> Felton, who coached WKU from 1998-2003, has kept in touch with the Hilltopper program through his friendships with current coach Ray Harper and assistant coach David Boyden, who played for Felton at WKU.</p><p>The Hilltoppers are 13-11 on the season, and 7-6 in Sun Belt Conference play.
