Margaret Ryan Huddleston http://wkyufm.org en Governor Beshear Appoints Downey to Family Court Judge http://wkyufm.org/post/governor-beshear-appoints-downey-family-court-judge <p>Bowling Green attorney Dick Downey was chosen from among three nominees to fill the remaining term of the late Margaret Huddleston as Warren Circuit Family Court judge.</p><p>Downey will serve as judge for the remainder of the year.</p><p>The other two nominees, Bowling Green attorneys David Lanphear and Rebecca Simpson, are among a group of six candidates who are running to be elected to the seat in November's general election. Downey is not running in that election.</p><p>Downey has practiced law in Bowling Green and Franklin and was the chairman of the board of directors of Kentucky Legal Aid for 15 years. The names of the three nominees were forwarded to Governor Beshear just last Friday by a nominating commission headed by Kentucky Chief Justice John Minton, a Bowling Green native. Visitation will be Monday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the J. C. She was the first female to serve as a circuit judge in the over two hundred year existence of the Warren Circuit Court.&nbsp;</p><p>Funeral arrangements are pending.</p><p>Huddleston took medical leave from the bench in November after being diagnosed with a reoccurrence of cancer. She was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer in 2003. Following ten years of remission, doctors determined that the cancer had metastasized in her lungs. She will not seek another eight-year term on the bench after her current term is completed.</p><p>Judge Huddleston was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer in 2003.
