Work crews will close the outside lanes heading north and south this week in preparation of the paving of temporary lanes where shoulders currently exist.</p><p>Scotty’s Contracting—which has a nearly $64 million contract for the project—will install temporary barrier wall and begin work in the median.</p><p>Closures will take place each day through Thursday between 6 am and 5pm central, with traffic delays possible during peak afternoon hours.</p><p>Motorists are also cautioned that a speed limit reduction to 55 miles per hour will be in place through the new work zone. But he hopes the study has sent a strong message to state transportation officials that the idea is worth considering. A lawmaker from the region says he and his colleagues are continuing to look at ways to speed up the ongoing interstate lane widening.</p><p>Representative Michael Meredith of Brownsville tells WKU Public Radio that many legislators from the region remain interested in a possible public-private partnership that could drastically cut down on what they fear will be a 20-year project.</p><p>Meredith said while the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has expressed concerns over such a partnership, the state's Legislative Research Commission believes such a union is legal.</p><p>"There have been some offers made by some contractors to partially finance that project," said the Edmonson County Republican. "And as lawmakers in this region, we're especially open to those ideas. And there's some money still set aside in the budget to study some of those issues and see if there's a possibility of moving it along a little faster than what it is now." Fetic and two children in the SUV survived the crash.</p><p>The wreck set off a four-vehicle collision on the other side of the interstate. Police said Gregg Lohman, 36, the drummer for country music singer Kellie Pickler, remained hospitalized Monday. Troopers have said the wrecks on the southbound lane were likely caused by people slowing to look at the initial crash.
