Bowling Green, Ky – City and county budgets in Kentucky are being strained by the mandatory funding of the County Employee Retirement System. Bowling Green Mayor Elaine Walker tells Western's Public Radio she and other city and county leaders in the state are pushing for ways to relieve the burden on local budgets. But any fix will have to pass the General Assembly, a move that may prove politically unpopular.
Frankfort, Ky – Kentucky Democratic gubernatorial nominee Steve Beshear has released his 2006 federal and state income tax returns. The Dawson Springs Democrat had held back from releasing the information, until reporters pointed out that Beshear had demanded his political opponents do the same. Frankfort, Ky – Governor Fletcher has set the official date of a special legislative session. On July 5th, lawmakers will return to Frankfort to discuss tax breaks for a coal conversion plant--and possibly millions of dollars in vetoed university projects.
