Frankfort, KY – A lawyer for the Executive Branch Ethics Commission says a hearing should continue to look at Governor Patton's alleged dealings with the nursing home business of a former mistress. Attorney Boyce Crocker responded to Patton's request to have the ethics charge against him dropped.
Owensboro, KY – A Federal Judge has ruled that Tyson Foods Inc. shares responsibility for air pollution from three farms it helps to operate in western Kentucky. District Judge Joseph H. McKinley, Junior says the company instructs the growers in facility design, specifications for equipment, and the optimum conditions for chicken growth.
Lexington, KY – Governor-Elect Ernie Fletcher is at home, recovering from shoulder surgery. The 51 year old Fletcher underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair the rotator cuff in his right shoulder.
Kentucky's next governor injured his shoulder a few weeks ago when he fell on an escalator at the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport. Surgeons say the fall aggravated an old tennis injury.
Tikrit, Iraq – An Army helicopter crash near Saddam Hussein's hometown has killed six soldiers from the 101st Airborne. A spokesman for the 4th Infantry Division says the six were on board the chopper when it crashed into a riverbank near Tikrit.
Military officials are investigating to determine whether the helicopter was brought down by mechanical problems or hostile fire. The 101st Airborne is based at Fort Campbell.
Bowling Green, KY – The Speaker of the Kentucky House says Republican U-S Senator Mitch McConnell has been calling Kentucky Democrats in the House, asking them to switch parties. Speaker Jody Richards, a Democrat from Bowling Green, says some Democrats in the House have told him that Senator McConnell has placed calls to them, urging them to leave their political party. Richards says he has talked with his fellow Democrats and doesn't expect any to leave the party.
Washington, D.C. – The only Democrat in Kentucky's Congressional Delegation is asking the Defense Department to investigate allegations of "second rate" medical care being offered to some injured soldiers at Fort Knox. Soldiers at Fort Stewart, Georgia also reported similar conditions.
Fourth District Congressman Ken Lucas and Congressman Ike Skelton of Missouri have written a letter to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld regarding the matter. 128 Congressional Democrats signed the letter.

Bowling Green, KY – Warren Circuit Judge Tom Lewis heard arguments today on a motion to dismiss the lawsuit filed by the mother and aunt of Katie Autry. She's the student who died last May after being assaulted and burned in her residence hall room.
