Funeral Service Scheduled at Fort Campbell

Fort Campbell, KY – Officials at Fort Campbell say a funderal service
will be held Friday, October 24th for Lieutenant
Colonel Kim Orlando. He and two other military
police officers were killed last week in Karbala, Iraq.

The service is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. at Memorial
Chapel at Fort Campbell. The funeral is open to the

One Westbound Lane Still Closed on Interstate 24

Kuttawa, KY – One westbound lane of Interstate 24 in Western Kentucky
remains closed as a precaution, after Sunday's chemical
fire in a truck. The fire occurred on Sunday afternoon
near Kuttawa.

A Kentucky State Trooper and four Kuttawa firefighters
were treated for exposure to the chemical dibutyl-amino-
ethanol, which is used in the manufacture of pesticides.
Two other people near the accident site were sent to
local hospitals for treatment.

Hardin County Student Charged with Threatening

Radcliff, KY – A Middle school student in Hardin County has been
charged with terroristic threatening. Police say the
younster took a gun to school.

School officials say the boy is an eighth grade
student at Bluegrass Middle School. He faces
a hearing on Thursday and could be expelled.

Interstate 24 Closed in Western Kentucky

Kuttawa, KY – The Kentucky State Police now say Interstate 24 near
Kuttawa, Kentucky will remain closed in both directions
for one to three days. A chemical used in the manufacture
of pesticides has been burning at the scene, the result of
a fire that broke out in the truck hauling the substance.

Lunsford Supports Republican in Gubernatorial Race

Frankfort, KY – Millionaire businessman and former political candidate
Bruce Lunsford announced today that he is supporting
Republican gubernatorial candidate Ernie Fletcher.
Lunsford ran unsuccessfully as a Democrat in the
May primary, before dropping out of the race.

Fletcher says he accepts Lunsford's support and he
maintains the support is an indication that his campaign
is able to build a consensus.

Department of Defense Identifies Those Killed in Iraq

Karbala, Iraq – The Department of Defense says three 101st Airborne
Division soldiers were killed in a firefight in Karbala.
Forty three year old Lieutenant Colonel Kim Orlando
of Tennessee was Commander of Fort Campbell's
716th Military Police Battalion. Twenty eight year old
staff sergeant Joseph Bellavia of Wakefield, Massachusetts,
was a military police team leader. Officials say
twenty four year old Sean Gilley of San Bernadino,
California was a team leader with the same company.

Executive Committee Approves Plan for Tuition Hike

Bowling Green, KY – The Executive Committee of Western Kentucky University's
Governing Board has approved a mid-year tuition increase.
The panel voted for the two hundred dollar per semester
increase after hearing a presentation from University
President Gary Ransdell.

Former Kentucky Governor Ned Breathitt Dead

Lexington, KY – A University of Kentucky Hospital Spokesperson
says Breathitt died shortly before midnight, last
night. The former Kentucky governor had been in
a coma since Friday, when he collapsed during
a dinner speech at the University of Kentucky.

Labor Secretary Campaigns for Gubernatorial Candidate

Bowling Green, KY – U-S Labor Secretary Elaine Chao is visiting Kentucky
this week, campaigning for Republican Gubernatorial
candidate, Ernie Fletcher. Chao is attending a series
of rallies along with the candidate's wife, Glenna Fletcher.

Speaking in Kentucky this morning, Chao said the state
lags behind too many other states in key areas. She is
calling for improvements in education, health care, and
business development. The Labor Secretary is the wife
of U-S Senator Mitch McConnell.
