Dan Modlin served as News Director at WKU Public Radio for 23 years, and retired in early 2013. He's a native of Indiana who grew up in a broadcasting family.  A graduate of Ball State University, he worked for several years in the news network business in the Midwest, specializing in agricultural and political coverage, before coming to WKU Public Radio. His reports have earned numerous national  and state  awards for documentary production, public affairs reporting, and enterprise reporting.

Petroleum Industry Analyst Says 2012 Could be a Costly Year at the Gas Pump

Industry Analyst Gregg Laskoski of GasBuddy.com says there are many uncertainties in the market place this year, but he believes median gasoline prices could reach or exceed four dollars per gallon by Memorial Day in many parts of the country. A new report released by GasBuddy.com warns that the retail price of gasoline at the start of 2012 was  signicantly higher than just two years ago. Laskoski calls that an "ominous sign" for the rest of 2012.  He spoke with Dan Modlin...........

Indiana-Based Electric Car Battery Manufacturer Files for Bankruptcy

Ener1, an Indianapolis-based company that received millions of dollars in federal stimulus funding, wants a Federal Bankruptcy Court in New York to approve a debt-restructuring plan. The company develops batteries for use in electric vehicles, but has reportedly faced major financial problems in recent months.

US Pork Exports to Japan at Record Levels

The US Meat Export Federation says US pork exports to Japan could top the two billion dollar mark for 2011. The Executive Director of the Kentucky Pork Producers Association says that's good news for some farmers in the Bluegrass State. Bonnie Jolly of Elizabethtown says the export market is boosting the prices farmers receive for their hogs.

Work on Ohio River Bridge is "On Schedule"

Repairs on a closed Ohio River bridge that runs between Louisville and Southern Indiana are about half way done. The Prime contractor handling the repair project says the work will be finished by the start of March.

Workers have been on the job seven days a week, twelve hours per day, to try to complete work on the Sherman Minton Bridge.  The Interstate 64 span was closed in September after a crack was found on a steel support beam.

WKU Officials: No Hiring Freeze

Officials at Western Kentucky University are facing a budget cut of about five million dollars in Governor Beshear's new budget. However, WKU President Gary Ransdell says a hiring freeze won't be used to help meet the cost reduction.
