Lisa is a Scottsville native and WKU alum.  She has worked in radio as a news reporter and anchor for 18 years.  Prior to joining WKU Public Radio, she most recently worked at WHAS in Louisville and WLAC in Nashville.  She has received numerous awards from the Associated Press, including Best Reporter in Kentucky.  Many of her stories have been heard on NPR.

Kentucky Governor Signs Bill Banning Synthetic Drugs

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear is in Hopkinsville today to sign into law legislation aimed at curbing the use of synthetic drugs.  It will now be illegal to sell or possess the substances that produce a marijuana-like high and are often marketed as herbal incense and bath salts.

Interstate Closure to Continue Several More Hours

A crash on northbound I-65 at mile marker 19 has interrupted the flow of interstate traffic this afternoon in the Warren County and Simpson County  areas in Kentucky. Northbound traffic on  the interstate is being  detoured to U-S 31W  at mile marker 6 in Simpson County.

Nursing Home Operator Leaving Kentucky, Will Lease Facilities to Texas Company

A major nursing home chain is leaving Kentucky. Extendicare Health Services says its decision is the result of increased litigation and the recent General Assembly's inaction on tort reform. Extendicare has 21 skilled nursing centers and more than 1,700 beds in Kentucky.

Governor Dedicates New Owensboro Armory

Kentucky National Guard

Governor Steve Beshear was in Owensboro Wednesday for the dedication of the Kentucky Army National Guard Readiness Center. The facility is located adjacent to the Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport, which gives the Guard quick accessibility around the state and serves as a distribution point if supplies need to be flown in during a disaster or emergency.

New Kentucky Law Toughens Penalties for Driving Without Insurance

Starting June 1st, Kentucky motorists who don't carry insurance risk losing their car registration.  Registered owners of personal vehicles shown to have been without insurance more than 60 days will receive notices in the mail.

Central City Transportation Meeting Open to Public

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will hold a public meeting Thursday night to discuss plans to widen US 62 in Central City. Engineers and design consultants will be available to answer questions about the $16.5 million project that includes a busy section of US 62 from near the Central City Wal-Mart entrance at US 431 running eastward to the US 431/KY 70/South 2nd Street intersection.
