101st Airborne Finding Weapons In Iraq

By AP

Kirkuk, Iraq – The 101st Airborne Division has been busy digging up buried
weapons near Kirkuk, 180 miles north of Baghdad.
The Fort Campbell based soldiers found more than 2,700 mortar rounds
buried near an abandoned Iraqi army base. An Army spokesman says
troops are excavating similar mounds in search of more weapons.
Meanwhile, the U. S. military says a Marine assigned to the Second
Marine Aircraft Wing was killed Saturday when his vehicle struck a
roadside bomb, 45 miles west of Baghdad.
At least 2,106 U. S. military personnel have died since the Iraq War started
in March 2003.
And about 150 soldiers from the 494th Transportation Company were
scheduled to return to Fort Campbell Monday.
They've served nearly one year in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
