Amber Alert Upgrade

By AP

Sparta, KY – Governor Fletcher has unveiled an upgrade to the state's Amber Alert System. He made the announcement before Sunday's "Amber Alert Portal 300" at Kentucky Speedway.
Amber Alerts broadcast information about child disappearances through the media and on highway signs in the area where the children have disappeared.
Kentucky is just the 7th state to now send the information to cell phones, e-mail addresses, pagers and other personal electronic devices. Citizens must register on-line to receive the information.
Fletcher says that state police now can send out maps and route information in the area where the child is reported missing. Police can also communicate more effectively with authorities across state lines.
