Autopsy Scheduled for Henderson Guidance Counselor/Dance Team Coach Found Shot in Home

Autopsy results are pending in the shooting death of a woman who served as a guidance counselor and dance team coach in the Daviess and Henderson County Public School systems. Medical examiners were scheduled to perform an autopsy late Tuesday in Louisville on Michelle Cotter, the 39 year old who was found dead in her home early Tuesday morning.

A public information officer with the Henderson Police Department told WKU Public Radio Cotter suffered at least one gunshot wound, and was pronounced dead at Methodist Hospital in Henderson.

Her husband, 36-year-old Steven Cotter, was taken into custody inside the home. Henderson Police say Mr. Cotter had a firearm and was threatening to kill himself when they arrived at the house.

He was shot in the eye with a taser before being taken into custody, and was then given medical treatment at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.

Michelle Cotter worked as a guidance counselor at College View Middle School in Daviess County, and as a dance team instructor for Henderson County Public Schools.

Steven Cotter worked as an assistant for the boy’s soccer program at Henderson County High School.
