Bardstown Police Chief Hopes New Tip Line Will Lead to Help Solving Unsolved Murders, Disappearance

Bardstown Police Dept.

The Bardstown Police Chief is hopeful that a new tip line will lead to clues about several unsolved murders.

One of those unsolved cases is the 2013 ambush slaying of Bardstown Police Officer Jason Ellis. The 33-year-old was shot to death after he got out of his police cruiser to remove tree limbs that had been placed on a Nelson County highway exit ramp.

Bardstown Police Chief Kim Kraeszig joined the department in September, after the departure of the two previous police chiefs within one year.

She said the unsolved cases are like open wounds.

“When family members are there out in the community, and they’ve lost loved ones, sometimes the only closure that a family member can have is when someone is brought to justice. There are people in the community that have information, but sometimes fear keeps them from coming forward.”

Some of the other unsolved cases in Bardstown include the 2016 brutal murders of an elementary school special education teacher and her 16-year-old daughter, and the disappearance of 35-year-old Crystal Rogers in 2015.

The tip line has been up and running for about two weeks. The number is 502-348-HEAT.
