Beshear Heading to Europe for Economic Development Trip

Governor Steve Beshear is leaving Saturday for an economic development trip to Germany and Sweden.

Beshear's office said Wednesday that the governor has been invited to speak at a symposium in Germany, where he will discuss Kentucky's role in the global auto industry. More than a thousand auto executives from around the world gather for the yearly conference.

The governor's office says Beshear will also promote Kentucky to potential new businesses and strengthen ties with European companies already operating in the state. Beshear will be accompanied by state economic development officials during the five-day trip.

More than 170 European facilities operate in Kentucky, employing more than 27,000 people. Last year, nearly 15 percent of new investment in Kentucky came from European-owned businesses.

Trade between Kentucky and Europe topped $16 billion last year.
