Bill Would Curb Credit Card Sales on Campus

By Dan Modlin

Frankfort, KY – A bill passed by a House committee in Frankfort would
require college students to get parental permission to
apply for credit cards solicited on campus. House bill
63 is sponsored by House Speaker Jody Richards,
a Democrat from Bowling Green.

Under the bill, companies that try to collect a student's
credit card debt from a guardian or parent who has not
accepted the liability would be in violation of state
unfair trade practice law. The measure was approved
by the House Labor and Industry Committee.

HB 63 now goes to the full House for consideration.
