Both Lanes of I-65 South at Hart County Now Open Following Crash

Update at 3:34 p.m.:

Cleanup from this morning’s crash on southbound Interstate 65 at Exit 58 is complete.  All lanes are open and the 14 feet width restriction is lifted.  It will take an hour or so for the 6-8 miles of queue to clear and for traffic flow to return to normal.

Update at 12:43 p.m.:

Crews have worked to open one lane of Interstate 65 southbound at Exit 58 (Horse Cave).   The detour around via southbound exit and entrance ramps, crossing KY 218 is discontinued, except for wide loads over 14 feet.

All loads 14 feet and over must use the exit and entrance ramps at Exit 58.

Traffic remains heavy and is backed up to approximately mile point 66, north of Munfordville.  Motorists should still be alert for stop-and-go traffic ahead.

US 31-W through Munfordville is also very congested.  Motorists are urged to stay on I65 now that a lane is open.  Following US 31W to bypass the crash is not beneficial based on traffic volumes along the corridor at this time.  Local motorists using KY 218 and KY 335 (from Rowletts toward the Love’s Truck Plaza) should also still expect congestion and delays in the interchange vicinity due to the large number of vehicles trying to access the slowly moving flow of the interstate.

Update at 10:00 a.m.:

Cleanup crews are on the scene of this morning's crash on I-65 that has shut down the southbound lanes at exit 58.

They hope to have one lane open by 1 p.m. central time.

Traffic is being detoured around the crash via the southbound exit and entrance ramps, crossing KY 218.

Original post:

Interstate 65 southbound is closed at Exit 58 in Horse Cave to due a semi crash, according to a traffic advisory from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.  Traffic is being detoured around the crash via the southbound exit and entrance ramps, crossing KY 218.

Southbound I65 Motorists should expect delays upon approach to mile point 58 and be alert for stop-and-go traffic ahead.  Local motorists using KY 218 and KY 335 (from Rowletts toward the Love’s Truck Plaza) should expect congestion and delays in the interchange vicinity.

The vehicle’s cargo consisted of a load of corn.   The crash is located within the I-65 widening project construction zone.  With barrier wall and guardrail constraints complicating cleanup, the closure and detour is expected to take 6+ hours.
