Bridge Collapse at Kentucky Lake
Fri January 27, 2012
Bridge over Kentucky Lake Damaged
The 312 foot Delta Mariner struck the traffic deck of the Eggners Ferry Bridge last night, causing the collapse of a two hundred foot section of the structure. Emergency officials say none of the twenty crew members on board were injured and there is no indication any vehicles were on the bridge at the time of the incident.
The Eggners Ferry Bridge spans a little more than a half mile over Kentucky Lake. It is at the western entrance to the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has confirmed that two spans of the bridge are down. A full evaluation to determine what repairs might be needed could take several days.
