Budget Cuts Affect Summer School

Frankfort, KY – Cuts in state funding are forcing several central Kentucky school districts to trim programs and charge students more for summer school this year.
For the first time, Jessamine County school officials had to charge for high school summer school, with students paying $75. Madison County school officials decreased their summer program options and Scott County began charing fees to cover the cost of summer school.
Fayette County scaled back its summer programs in several subjects. In Fayette County this year, 210 students enrolled in the tuition-based high school summer program. In 2001, 900 students were enrolled in the same program
