Candidate for First District race disagree on tax cuts

Bowling Green – Democratic candidate Klint Alexander says Congress has been too generous with those who don't need tax help. Speaking with Western's Public Radio, the Hopkinsville attorney said tax cuts should have been directed to the middle income individuals who are in need of tax relief.

Republican Congressman Ed Whitfield counters that the tax cuts approved under President Bush have been across the board reductions which have been helpful to small business owners and farmers. Whitfield charges that Democrats at the national level are just repeating the "same old criticism" that only the wealthy benefit from the tax cuts.

Whitfield is currently serving his fourth term in the U.S. House of Representataives. Alexander will be the Midday Edition interview guest on Western's Public Radio today. Whitfield will be the interview guest tomorrow. The Midday Edition is heard at 12:30 pm eastern time, 11:30 central time.
