Candidates Set For Special Election

By AP

Louisville, KY – Republicans in Jefferson County have selected a teacher to run in a special election for an open senate seat.
The 37th district seat has been vacant since the November 2004 election due to court challenges.
Debbie Peden will run for the GOP in the February 14th election. Peden is married to a Louisville metro council member.
Democrats selected state representative Perry Clark to run for the open seat. Clark beat out Virginia Woodward, who originally ran in the contested 2004 election.
The Kentucky Supreme Court ruled last month that neither Woodward nor Republican Dana Seum Stephenson were eligible for the seat. That left it up to the state Senate president to pick a date for the special election.
