Clarksville Industrial Fire Damages Zinc Plant
A fire that broke out just after midnight continues to burn in a Clarksville, TN zinc plant. Purity Zinc Metals is located in an industrial park just off I-24. No injuries have been reported.
The Leaf-Chronicle is reporting the three story plant's metal walls glowed orange from the fire at about 3:00 a.m. and that the entire 40,000 square foot plant was damaged by either smoke or fire, which was still burning at dawn.
Firefighters have to use a special foam since zinc dust reacts with water but because the foam doesn't cool the combustible zinc, the fire keeps re-igniting.
