Company Applies to Start Fertilizer Facility in Meade County

A Colorado company is seeking a permit to develop a fertilizer coating facility and barge terminal on 104 acres along a bend of the Ohio River near the Meade County town of Brandenburg. Agrium Advanced Technologies of Loveland, Colo., asked the Louisville District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the permit for the project.

The Courier-Journal reported that the facility would be built in phases over about 10 years. A barge loading and unloading dock would be constructed on the riverfront about 1,500 feet from the coating facility and consisting of three large cells that would support a crane, hopper and loading chute. Up to seven barges would be moored.

The Corps of Engineers said a permit cannot be issued until several state environmental agencies sign off on the proposal.
