Concern Over Pulaski Co.Facility Closing

By AP

Somerset, KY – There are growing concerns about the possible shutting down of the state's largest residential home for people with mental retardation.
The "Communities at Oakwood" in Somerset is one of Pulaski County's largest employers and if it is forced to close, community leaders say there could be severe economic fallout.
Oakwood provides jobs for 1,200 people on its 200 acre site and has an annual payroll of $33 million.
The facility that houses 300 people with mental retardation has been told by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Funding that its Medicaid funding will be cut off October 14th because of concerns about resident safety.
