A continued contract dispute between an Eastern Kentucky hospital network and the largest private Medicaid operator in the state is leading to confusion in the region. CoventryCares and Appalachian Region Healthcare are locked in a legal dispute over a new contract, with another court hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
But in the meantime, multiple media outlets in Eastern Kentucky are reporting that booths have been set up in the area to help Coventry customers to switch to another private Medicaid provider, WellCare. WellCare is the only private Medicaid operator in the state that ARH still has an active contract with.
The state Cabinet for Health and Family Services says Appalachian Regional Healthcare is operating the booths. And cabinet officials say they will await an official order from a judge before allowing Medicaid patients to switch operators.
