Constitutional Amendment On Medical Malpractice

By AP

Frankfort, KY – A Kentucky Republican lawmaker has teamed up with doctors in support of a proposed constituional amendment aimed at reducing doctors' malpractice insurance rates.
At the same time, there would be no caps on victims' damages.
The plan is sponsored by representative Bob DeWeese of Louisville and would offer voters a proposal that would require medical malpractice lawsuits to be screened before heading to trial.
DeWeese says the move would cut down on frivolous lawsuits and help keep doctors in kentucky. Unlike a different proposed constitutional amendment on the topic, he says his plan would not call for caps on victims' damages for pain and suffering.
