Cooper Embezzlement Estimate Doubles

By WKYU-FM

Bowling Green, KY – City officials in Bowling Green now say former city treasurer and chief financial office Davis Cooper embezzled more that the original estimate of $2.3 million.
Current city treasurer Jeff Meisel made the announcement Thursday morning at a Bowling Green city hall news conference.
Meisel said figures which go back into the late 1990's indicate that Cooper took approximately $3.8 million.
Cooper's case is expected to go to a Federal grand jury next month. The city hopes to recover some portion of the embezzled money through the sale of Cooper's two homes and a public auction of his personal items.
The city is also reviewing security measures to make it less likely that someone could embezzle funds in the future.
Bowling Green police chief Bill Waltrip says his department and the FBI are continuing to investigate the case.
