Couple Sues Kentucky to Issue Same-Sex Marriage License

A Kentucky couple is suing the state seeking to force it to issue same-sex marriage licenses.

The lawsuit was filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Louisville.

It comes just two days after a federal judge mandated that the state recognize same-sex marriages from other states and countries.

The newest lawsuit seeks to build on that ruling by raising the issue of whether Kentucky should have to not only recognize same-sex marriages, but sanction them taking place in the Bluegrass State.

The suit comes amid a flurry of rulings and other legal activity as activists push more states to recognize gay marriages.

That included a federal judge in Virginia striking down that state's ban, ruling it was unconstitutional.
