David Williams' tenure as president of the Kentucky State Senate -- and political adversary to Gov. Steve Beshear -- may soon end. Williams is among three nominees selected Thursday by the Judicial Nominating Commission for the open 40th Circuirt Court judgeship, and he said he'd take the job if chosen.
The other nominees are Angela M. Capps and Stephen Douglas Hurt.
"I am appreciative of the nomination and if the Governor appoints me, I will accept the position," Williams said in a statement released soon after the nomination was announced.
Williams was the Republican nominee last year for governor, but Beshear won re-election in a landslide.
Beshear will now select one of the three nominees for the open judge seat.
Capps is the public defender for Clinton County and has a law degree from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University.
Hurt is a senior judge after retiring as a district court judge in 2009. His law degree comes from the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville.
