Anyone wanting to file as a write-in candidate for the November 6th election in Kentucky must do so by Friday of this week. Under Kentucky law, write-in candidates for any office are required to file a Declaration of Intent to be a Write-in Candidate, and they must pay a filing fee prescribed by statute. Write-in candidates for President and Vice-President must also file a list of presidential electors pledged to the candidates.
Votes cast on election day for individuals who have not met this requirement will not be counted, according to Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes. Write-in candidates in the Commonwealth must file by 4:00 pm Eastern time on October 26th. Further information on the forms needed to run as a write-in candidate can be found online here.
