Nashville, TN – A spokeswoman for Tenncare says claims that children will be cut from the state health care program are wrong.
Marilyn Elam says "shame on the Tennessee Justice Center for trying needlessly to scare people".
Patient advocate Gordon Bonnyman of the justice Center says a close review of the details in a formal waiver requested by the state shows it's "even worse than described last week".
On Wednesday, Tenncare officials unveiled the details behind Governor Bredesen's proposed cuts. They entailed cutting 323,000 adults from the rolls by January 2006 while capping benefits for others.
The cuts are expected to save the state about $600 million in Tenncare costs during the next fiscal year that begins in July.
