Drug Tests For Garrard Co. Schools

By AP

Lancaster, KY – Random drug tests for students and teachers could be coming to Garrard County schools.
The county's school board unanimously approved the policy, which will get another reading next month.
High school and middle school students in sports and school activities, as well as those who drive and park at school, would be subject to the random tests.
Teachers would also be included in the tests and school board members have volunteered to be tested too.
School officials say the drug tests will be used to help students who might have a problem rather than to punish people.
The program is expected to cost $2,000 to $3,000 a year. More than dozen Kentucky counties already have random drug testing at schools.
