Officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet say repairs on the Eggners Ferry Bridge are progressing nicely, and reinforcing steel has been placed on the structure today. At this point, they believe the structure will be ready for use during the Memorial Day weekend.
The bridge serves as the western entrance to the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. It was damaged on the night of January 26th, when it was struck by an 8200 ton cargo ship. That incident destroyed a 322 foot span of the structure.
A concrete pour on the deck section is tentatively scheduled for May 20th.
