Energy Conservation Urged

By AP

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky enjoys some of the nation's cheapest electricity rates, but some officials are encouraging residents to use less power.
State officials say despite the cheap rates, utility bills in the state are higher than average.
The Kentucky Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet says the state is seventh in the nation in energy consumption per capita but officials are working to change that.
Governor Ernie Fletcher unveiled the state's first comprehensive enery plan earlier this year. The first nine of the 54 recommendations in the proposal discussed energy conservation.
The state government has planned to set a goal of reducing energy consumption by 10%..they say that would save an estimated $20 million a year.
