Executive Committee Approves Plan for Tuition Hike

By Dan Modlin

Bowling Green, KY – The Executive Committee of Western Kentucky University's
Governing Board has approved a mid-year tuition increase.
The panel voted for the two hundred dollar per semester
increase after hearing a presentation from University
President Gary Ransdell.

Eight of Western's Regents participated in the discussion,
but the full board will meet on October 31st to vote on the
matter. If the full board approves the plan, the tuition increase
would take effect for the spring semseter of 2004.

Ransdell says the plan, which is called "It is Academics'
Turn," is needed to offset the impact of unfunded enrollment
growth. The money generated by the two hundred dollar
tuition hike would be used to increase the number of
full-time faculty positions and to enhance academic
learning environments.
