No disciplinary action has occurred at the Horse Cave Police Department, a day after the FBI confirmed that the department is the focus of an ongoing federal investigation.
Hart County Sheriff Boston Hensley told WKU Public Radio that his department and Kentucky State Police have agreed to provide police coverage in Horse Cave on an as needed basis. However, Trooper Jeremy Hodges, public information officer for KSP, says no Horse Cave police officers are on leave at this time. Horse Cave City Attorney Pat Ross also said there’s been "no job action."
Without elaborating, the FBI confirmed that a search warrant was executed on Monday at the police Department. Horse Cave Mayor Randall Curry directed all questions about the probe to Ross who said he didn’t know the focus or scope of the investigation.
It’s unknown if the investigation is related to a case involving Officer Larry Dale Martin who is under federal indictment. He’s charged with wire fraud for selling and giving away military property that law enforcement obtained from a Department of Defense program. Martin’s alleged crimes occurred while he was with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department. Martin is scheduled to go on trial May 30.
