Felon from Maine Sentenced in Kentucky Underage Sex Case

A convicted felon from Maine will spend 30 years in prison for kidnapping a minor from her home in Owensboro with intentions of having sex with the girl.  A federal judge on Monday sentenced 46-year-old Archie Whalen on a charge of transporting a minor across state lines with the intent of engaging in sexual activity.

A federal jury in Owensboro convicted Whalen over the summer.  According to testimony presented at trial, Whalen took a 13-year-old Owensboro girl from her home in 2009.  A multi-state Amber Alert was issued, and within 24 hours, the girl was found with Whalen in Wisconsin.  The minor girl and her mother had met Whalen while they briefly lived in Maine.

Whalen has prior convictions for assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.
