Filing Deadline Monday for Independent Candidates
Monday is the deadline for independent candidates in Kentucky to file in order to be placed on the November ballot. Pursuant to existing statutes in Kentucky, individuals who want to run as independent, political organization or political group candidates in the state must file Statement of Candidacy forms by 4:00 pm, Eastern time.
There is no fee for filing a Statement of Candidacy, and those running for federal offices and nonpartisan offices are exempt from the requirement. Among the offices that are scheduled for a regular election this year, and require the filing of a Statement of Candidacy are State Senators in odd-numbered districts, State Representatives, and Commonwealth’s Attorneys for jurisdictions that contain more than one county.
More information can be obtained from County Clerks offices or the website of the Secretary of State, at www.sos.ky.gov.
