Florida Tomato Pickers Protest

Lexington, KY – A coalition of Florida tomato pickers is planning a week of events in louisville to speak out on working conditions under Taco Bell, an affiliate of Louisville-based Yum! Brands.
The Coalition of Immokalee Workers is a group of mostly Latino laborrers from the tomato-growing region around Immokalee, Florida. It's been staging demonstrations and a boycott against Taco Bell for years in protest of low wages and poor working conditions.
About 40 Immokalee workers arrived in Lexington by bus on the eastern leg of its protest tour. Their route has taken them through Atlanta and Nashville and as far north as Cleveland. A second busload of workers and supporters went through St. Louis and Indianapolis to Chicago.
The group's week in Louisville was scheduled to culminate in a rally outside Yum! headquarters on March 12th. Actor Martin Sheen and Kerry kennedy, daughter of the late Senator Robert F> Kennedy, are slated to speak
