Fort Campbell court martial verdict

By AP

Fort Campbell. KY – A military jury at Fort Campbell has recommended no prison time for a soldier convicted of armed robbert for taking an Iraqi sheik's SUV last year in Iraq.
The jury found Sergeant First Class James Williams guilty of willful dereliction of duty for allowing his soldiers to consume alcohol in Iraq.
The recommended sentence includes a reduction in rank to private and a bad conduct discharge. The commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division must still approve the sentence.
The 37 year old Williams maintained throughout the three-day court martial that he participated in taking the SUV only because his lieutenant ordered him to take a vehicle and because he did not think it was a criminal act.
Another soldier already has been convicted in the case and sentenced to prison. The lieutenant faces a court martial starting August 9th.
