Fort Campbell Soldier Charged In Shooting

Fort Campbell, KY – A Fort Campbell soldier has been charged with an October 13th shooting
at the base in which no one was injured.
The Army has charged 21 year old Private Nicholas Mikel with several
crimes, including 46 counts of attempted murder...one for each soldier
in the area.
Mikel is also charged with assault with intent to rape, wrongfully
possessing and failing to register a privately owned weapon, larceny and
unl;awful appropriation. The final charges involve the theft of a government
laptop computer.
Army spokeswoman Cathy Gramling says the rape charge is based on an
incident the day before the shooting.
Mikel is a member of the 101st Airborne Division. Legal proceedings
against him began last week at Fort Campbell and are scheduled to
resume next week.
