AP – Thousands of fighters from across the country are
expected to attend the funeral of 40 year old Lexington
firefighter Brenda Cowan. She was shot Friday while
responding to a domestic violence call and became
Lexington's first black female firefighter to die in the
line of duty.
Cowan was the third Lexington firefighter to die while
responding to a run. After Wednesday's service, Cowan's
body will be carried on a vintage fire truck to Rupp Arena
in Lexington. She will be buried Thursday in Sturgis in
Union County.
