Former WKU baseball standout Wade Gaynor hit the game winning home run this week in the Florida State League North Division Championship. Gaynor’s team, the Lakeland Flying Tigers, will now advance to the Florida State League Minor League Championship.
Gaynor leads the Detroit Tiger-affiliated team in home runs and slugging percentage this season.
A Hawesville, Kentucky native, Wade Gaynor was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the third round in 2009. At the time he was drafted, Gaynor was the highest draft choice in WKU history.
The Lakeland Flying Tigers will now face the Miami Marlins' Jupiter franchise in a best of five series for the Florida State League Championship.
