Governor Fletcher Has Successful Surgery

By AP

Lexington, KY – Governor Ernie Fletcher underwent surgery Tuesday morning as doctors successfully removed his gall bladder.
The surgery lasted about an hour at St. Joseph's East Hospital in Lexington. It was the second surgery in two days for the Governor, who had a gall stone removed Monday.
Fletcher's surgeon, Dr. Joseph Fine, says the Governor's gall bladder was sicker than originally thought. Fine says he's glad it was removed. Doctors made four incisions in Fletcher's abdomen during the surgery.
The Governor will be staying at the hospital at least overnight and it could be next week before he's back to work.
Lieutenant Governor Steve Pence has temporarily assumed the responsibilities of Governor.
