Henderson County Site Selected for Clean Coal Proposal

By Dan Modlin

Henderson, KY – The state of Kentucky has selected a site in Henderson County for a proposed one billion
dollar clean coal facility. The site selection was announced by Governor Ernie Fletcher, who called the location "excellent" for the project.

FutureGen is a public-private partnership designed to build the world's first
coal-fueled, zero-emissons power production plant. The state of Kentucky is making a financial commitment to the project, including one million dollars for additional site characterization, should Kentucky be
selected as a candidate site. Kentucky is competing against several other states for the project.

The site in Henderson County is described as a mine mouth which has ample coal production less than one mile away.
