Historical Marker to be Added at Muhammid Ali Birthplace

May 5, 2012

The Kentucky Historical Society will dedicate a marker in honor of the western Louisville home where boxing great Muhammid Ali was born.  Ali, who was born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr., lived in the home with his parents and brother.

The former World Heavyweight Champion was born January 17, 1942 and attended Central High School in Louisville.  He shocked many people in the world of sports when he first won the Heavyweight Title from Sonny Liston.

The marker will be dedicated at 10 am Tuesday at the home, which is located at 3302 Grand Avenue.  The marker program commemorates historical sites, events, and personalities throughout the Commonwealth.
