Homes Sales Set Record in Southern States

By AP

Washington, D.C. –
The U-S Commerce Department reports that new home
sales in the South set a record last month, at a seasonally-adjusted
613 thousand homes. That figure marks a twenty percent
increase from the same time last year.

Nearly half of all the new homes sold in the United States
last month were in the Southern region, which includes
seventeen states. Experts say relatively inexpensive land,
mortgage rates, nice weather, and jobs are factors contributing
to the sales performance in the South.
